Process - Editors Follow the ABCs
A. In the first meeting with your group you need to:
- Have every one describe their roles
- Decide on a name for the group
- Decide on a name for the magazine
- Decide on the topics that your group will write about and who will write about each topic. See the BIG QUESTINS page for a list of the topics.
- Complete the following SUMMARY TABLE and submit it to the publisher for her approval.
- Print out a copy of the TIME LINE table for every group member and set the date for the research to be done and record on the table.
B. In every class period you should:
- Have a 3-5 minute group huddle. Check with each writer on her progress. Offer to help with research or editing if needed. Offer suggestions or help in editing. Encourage your writers to have fun!
- Talk to the publisher about the group's progress and any concerns you have.
- Look at the time line, add deadlines, and check off progress. Revise time line as needed.
- Work on your editorial, see letter C below.
C. Your editorial should include:
- An introductory paragraph explaining the purpose of the magazine.
- A short paragraph describing each of the magazine writers and yourself.
- An overview paragraph of each article and why it is important to Christian 'tweens.
- A conclusion.
D. As the magazine is taking shape:
- Edit the rough drafts of each writer. When you think they are ready, take them to the publisher for her to edit.
- After the publisher edits the rough drafts, return them to the writer to polish them. When the articles are ready for publishing, work with your group to design the lay out of the magazine.
- Assist each writer as need to paste their articles and clip art into Microsoft Publisher.
- Work with the publisher to print the Magazine.
